ABOUT
STORY
This building, built in the Meiji era, has a unique charm that only a townhouse can have,
and reflects the unique historical background and cultural changes of Japan.
During this period, Japan was swept up in a wave of rapid modernization,
and tradition and newness intersected.
The building is characterized by a modern Japanese style that has been renovated while retaining the original architectural style.
Inside the building, furnishings and daily necessities from the time are placed,
and the atmosphere of a home from that time exudes.
On October 28, 1891 (Meiji 24), the Nobi Great Earthquake, the largest earthquake in Japan, occurred,
and 60% of the city collapsed.
The former Inaba County village of Nagara was also affected, and the previous townhouse collapsed.
It was rebuilt three years later, using the materials from the previous period.
Therefore, the house is estimated to have been built in Meiji 28.
